About the Founder

Brown-Eyed Amazon(BEA) was founded in 2013 by AnaYelsi Velasco-Sanchez. It is a community that celebrates the intersection of art, faith, and social justice -We are focused on 3 major and interconnected areas: the decolonization of the Christian Church, gender & LGBTQ equality, & racial justice

This is an LGBTQ-affirming, interlocking feminist space that welcomes ALL people of ALL (or no) faiths.

All voices are invited.  PoC and queer voices will be centered.

She works for The Reformation Project (TRP) as their Organizing and Programs Director and runs the organization’s Academy for Racial Justice. The Reformation Project is a grassroots organization dedicated to equipping Christians with the skills and knowledge they need to work for the full inclusion of LGBT people in the global Church. She is also a member of the Racial Justice Institute team (an initiative of Evangelicals For Social Action).

AnaYelsi also works as a professional artist. The aforementioned passions often seep into her creative endeavors – resulting in art that strives to push people beyond observation into engagement. The desire is to challenge the observer to change a world that is too often steeped in injustice, imbalances, and harsh realities. AnaYelsi’s art has been showcased throughout the Orlando and DC area and is available for purchase.

She lives in Washington, D.C. You can follow her on twitter at @brwneyedamzn and on Facebook.
