Psalm 72

Original Psalm 72

Endow the king with your justice, O God,
the royal son with your righteousness.
He will judge your people in righteousness,
your afflicted ones with justice.
The mountains will bring prosperity to the people,
the hills the fruit of righteousness.
He will defend the afflicted among the people
and save the children of the needy;
he will crush the oppressor.
He will endure as long as the sun,
as long as the moon, through all generations.
He will be like rain falling on a mown field,
like showers watering the earth.
In his days the righteous will flourish;
prosperity will abound till the moon is no more.
He will rule from sea to sea
and from the River to the ends of
the earth.
The desert tribes will bow before him
and his enemies will lick the dust.
The kings of Tarshish and of distant shores will bring tribute to him;
the kings of Sheba and Seba will present him gifts.
All kings will bow down to him and all nations will serve him.
For he will deliver the needy who cry out,
the afflicted who have no one to help.
He will take pity on the weak and the needy
and save the needy from death.
He will rescue them from oppression and violence,
for precious is their blood in his sight.
Long may he live!
May gold from Sheba be given him.
May people ever pray for him and bless him all day long.
Let grain abound throughout the land;
on the tops of the hills may it sway.
Let its fruit flourish like Lebanon;
let it thrive like the grass of the field.
May his name endure forever;
may it continue as long as the sun.
All nations will be blessed through him,
and they will call him blessed.
Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Israel,
who alone does marvelous deeds.
Praise be to his glorious name forever;
may the whole earth be filled with his glory.
Amen and Amen.

My version
The Coming Kingdom
Psalm 72

Lover of my heart, bestow upon your bride a spirit of justice.
Father bless your daughter with a heart of righteousness that beats alongside yours.
Grant me the wisdom to share that righteousness, not just in words but in action.
Grant me a heart of mercy for the broken of this world.
Help me to prepare the way for your kingdom
A kingdom in which once lifeless lands would give nourishment to your people
Lord transform me into a strong woman, made in your image
A woman with the gift to heal your broken daughters and orphaned children
A woman with the courage to fight and overcome their persecutors
Your kingdom is eternal.
It has been and will be present through ever day, for all of time.
Your love is promised to us and I want to see it poured upon your creation.
Let our weary spirits be saturated in it; leave us refreshed
Daily our imperfect natures lead us away from your will
The day is coming when you will put an end to this.
Your once burdened followers will receive their treasures.
Everything I have is laid at your feet, anything in me that would limit the time you have to use me.
I take solace in the fact that we may be temporary but you will be the king of kings forever and for all the world.
There is nothing for me to fear as long as you are standing beside me.
There is nothing in me and no enemy against me who is more powerful than your unfailing love.
I want to serve you among the people of whatever nation you call me too.
My life should be an offering that glorifies you.
Grow in me the gifts of mercy and compassion
I don’t want a brokenness without hope.
There are no tears I can cry that will change their situation.
It is my prayer to see the poor through your eyes and to pair that with your willingness to serve them.
I need to be able to show them that you are undone by who they are.
I want to be an intercessor; to love them in a way that reveals how passionately you desire them.
Let me spend every year of a long life pleasing you.
Place me on the hearts of my brothers and sisters.
Through so many painful experiences it had been their prayers that had sustained me.
Break me of any pride, materialism, or drive for success
My prosperity should be defined by you.
It makes me smile to to know that because of you my life will bless the people I serve.
Thank you Lord for every loving thing you have done and will do.
I know that both publicly and privately I have failed to give you the praise that you deserve.
So I am asking that you teach me to be bolder, more disciplined, and more in love with you.
Prepare me to share your name with the nations.
Amen and amen.
